do I register to join the parish?
Contact
the Parish Office 362-8061 or stop in the Sacristy after any
Sunday
Mass.
Who
should be registered in a parish?
All
persons who are out of school and/or are independent should make a
specific
parish their “home religious base” (even if they live with their
parents)
and should be registered individually.
What
do I need to do if I would like to hold my wedding ceremony at St.
Wenceslaus?
Please
contact the Pastor at least six months in advance.
How
do I arrange to have my baby baptized?
Schedule
with the Parish Office for a date, usually following Sunday morning
Mass.
Call Amy VanderVaart at 362-7181. Participation in Baptism program
offered at Immaculate Conception on the 1st Monday of each month is
required. Parents must be registered parishioners
and practicing Catholics.
When
does First Eucharist take place?
First
Confession/First Eucharist are generally celebrated in second grade.
These
are family-centered programs.
What
about Confirmation?
Students
who will be 15 years old by the date of Confirmation are encouraged to
begin the preparation. The preparation time is usually ten months to a
year. It includes a retreat, letters to the pastor, service,study,and
monthly
conversations and/or activities with sponsors.
How
do I arrange for the Anointing of the Sick?
A
general Anointing of the Sick is held during mass several times a year,
the times and dates will be announced. If someone is seriously
ill
or is about to have surgery, please contact the parish office and we
will
see that they get the sacrament. If they are in Mercy Hospital
there
is a chaplain there who will give it to them--just let the nurses know
to contact the chaplain. There is also a priest that covers St. Luke's
Hospital--just let the Parish Office know.
When
is the 2nd collection for area needs?
That
is held the third Sunday of the month.
What
do I need to do to become a Catholic?
The
RCIA program is designed for people interested in becoming Catholic or
who have been baptized but have not been catechized in the faith.
Classes
begin in the fall. To be part of the program call the parish office.
What
organizations are available for me to join?
Saint
Monica’s Circle
The people of this circle meet for a potluck meal at
11:30 a.m. on the first Sunday of the month.
Following dinner there is a business meeting.
This Circle bakes kolaches as a fundraiser. The money is
used to purchase items needed in the parish. This group also
works on the Goulash Day committee
Saint
Bridget’s Circle
The people of this circle provides funeral meals
and work with Goulash Days. The money they
raise is used to purchase needed items for the
church and the parish office. This group meets
twice a year for social events.
Goulash
Committee
This group plans the Goulash Days and
coordinates various committees to make
the day a success. They meet in the
late spring and summer prior to the day of
the event.
Saint
Vincent DePaul Committee
This committee volunteers their time and
talent at the Saint Vincent dePaul society.
They provide assistance for people in need.
They also volunteer in the retail store
providing low cost household and clothing
items.
Catholic
Workman
This group is a Fraternal benefit society. They offer
life insurance and annuity programs, community and
parish assistance, Catholic school grants for members,
college scholarships and other benevolent programs
that promote understanding and service to the church,
country, home and Catholic Workman welfare.
Golden Oldies
This
group is organized for the senior citizens to visit and build community
and is open to both non-parishioners and parishioners. This grup meets
for a potluck at noon on the third Thursday of the month. Everyone
brings
a covered dish and dues are .25 per month. After the meal they play
Bingo
with each person donating one item to be used for prizes. Occasionally
this group takes a day trip or schedules some other activity.
Visiting
Angels
Our
parish has on average 45 parishoners that are shutins; sick that are
homebound,
in nursing homes, Hallmar, and hospital patients.
During
the holidays the members of this group make goodies and then meet at
Chihak
Hall
to decorate the plates. They then visit the shut-ins, taking the
goodies
and greeeting cards. At Christmas the group buys these people something
special. Funds for this cause come from money donated to the "Giving
Tree."
