Parish Manager’s report: Dave Martin

Two more Confirmation classes will be held, and the Mass will be Sept. 19 at St. Pats. Next year’s Confirmation class will be led by Marion Moreland and Geralyn Ward. Vacation Bible School will be held on June 21, 22, & 23. Elaine Boes, Parish Nurse, requested $400 in financial support to attend a Parish Nurse Symposium to be held in St. Louis on Sept. 16-18.  A motion was made and carried to provide this support (Martin / Wiedner). Elaine will be asked to give a report to the Council upon her return from the Symposium. An appreciation brunch was held for all volunteers from the Church assisting the sick and homebound. Msgr. Glovik’s 50th Jubilee Open House will be held on June 26 after the 10:30 Mass. Linda Zachar and Bonnie May are doing the pictorial directory design. Fr. Podhajsky will include a letter to the Parish in the directory. Dave provided a draft of a new brochure concerning the Church, Park, rental facilities etc. It was suggested that we place an article in The Witness concerning the rebirth of St. Wenceslaus Parish following the 2008 flood.

Social Concerns: Jim Zachar

Two new people have been hired at St. Vincent De Paul.  Joyce Crawford is running the store. Donations are up and sales are good. St. Vincent De Paul is searching for a new store manager, and needs money for the new manager. The store is full of things to sell. A meeting at Mercy discussed the Sister Mary Lawrence Community Center construction. Social Outreach meets tomorrow (May 25) at St. Pius. The food pantry will move to the Sister Mary Lawrence Community Center. HCAP will give what they previously gave to the Catholic Worker House.

Spiritual Growth and Liturgy: Mark Harman

The Memorial Day Mass will be held at St. Wenceslaus Church at 9:00 AM. Fr. Dillard will cover the Masses in June while Fr. Podhajsky is on vacation. Ushers need to check that the TV and audio are on for the weekend Masses. Dave Martin has the June and July schedule for lectors, servers, Eucharistic ministers, ushers, and sacristans. Copies of the schedule are poster in the sacristy and usher’s closet. Sacristans need to be present by 10:00 AM on Sundays for the 10:30 Mass. It was determined that Easter flowers that no longer look good should be disposed of.

Parish Community Life

Houby Days made a profit of $1500. A Goulash meeting will be held on June 6. A doughball roller machine could be purchased for approximately $6000, but Monica’s Circle has shown little interest. There will be a kolache bake this week for a bake sale after Mass on May 28 &29. There is a possibility of holding a kolache baking class.

Buildings and Grounds: Dwayne May

Weather stripping is needed around the sacristy doors, and trim boards are needed in the vestibule. The hookup for the TV/Audio system in Chihak Hall is done. The TV/Audio system needs to be turned off after Mass. Al Willenborg will design a sign for the door to the Glovik Parish Center from the parking lot. This sign will indicate what offices are present on that side of the building. A “Do not enter” sign needs to be placed on the steps leading to the balcony in the Glovik Parish Center. Pew repair is continuing. The corbel mold is in the Rectory but needs to be packaged correctly for long term storage. The correct pews in the Church have not yet been padded. Jim Zachar will see to the cleaning of the tile grout in the kitchen of the Glovik Parish Center. A contract for the rental of Church facilities is in use. Good crowds are present for the bingo fundraisers to support the radio station. Since our gambling license is being used, we need to see that all financial and liability issues are handled properly. Bob Kazimour and Jim Piersall plan to meet with the radio station organizer, John Davis, to iron out these issues.

Finance: Jim Piersall

April was a good month financially. The Easter collection netted $7000. A motion was made and approved to pay the current bills. There is a plan to raise the sum needed for a given week as indicated in The Voice. The Parish had a profit through April. St. John’s Cemetary is in severe financial difficulty.

Pastor’s report: Fr. Podhajsky

Father will leave on June 9th for two weeks vacation. There will be no Parish Council meeting in June and meetings will resume in July.

Closing prayer: Fr. Podhajsky

Meeting adjourned: 7:45 PM
