St. Wenceslaus Society

St. Wenceslaus Parish was established in 1874 by immigrants from Czechoslovakia. From the old country, they brought their customs, courage and faith in God.  Wanting to preserve their Czech heritage, they joined together to build a church – and they succeeded. By 1900, it had become apparent that the church was overcrowded and could not meet the needs of the parish.  To address this problem, early in 1901 St. Wenceslaus Church established a society called Svato Vaclavske Druzstvo to be responsible for gathering voluntary contributions for the building of a new church. Parishioners were generous with their contributions and construction of the new building was begun. Soon projects such as the parish rectory and the St. Wenceslaus grade school were completed.  In addition, St. Ludmila mission parish and school  were established.

Now it is our turn to be generous, our turn to preserve that heritage. Today we have re-established the St. Wenceslaus Society as a way to help enable our parish to continue to flourish, to assist with the renewal of the surrounding neighborhood and ensure a bright future.

A contribution of $250 makes one a member of the St Wenceslaus Society.  This entitles you to one line on the Memorial Wall in Czech Heritage Park. All members will be listed in a registry in the rectory office as well as in quarterly publications. Those making contributions of $5,000 and above will be given further recognition as described in the informational brochure. More brochures can be found in the back of the church.

In addition to cash donations, there are a variety of ways one can make a contribution. We can arrange an installment plan if you wish. In addition, please consider remembering the St. Wenceslaus Society in all your estate planning, in your will, your insurance policies and charitable gift annuities just as you have so generously remembered St. Wenceslaus during your lifetime.

As we re-dedicated our church building last October, it is appropriate that we re-dedicate ourselves as well. The success of this re-established St. Wenceslaus Society depends on the support and commitment of each of us.
